To best maneuver through this world of worlds, it is best that our hearts "die" a little bit and harden so we're no longer quite "so raw" and subject to the wafting scents "of baited traps", intentional or otherwise. Understanding that the world is not usually loaded with emotional resonance, mystical portent, and how most of the time you'll end up "with a whole lot of nothing" as matters, standing as they are, find themselves appallingly rude, crude, and indifferent.

You'll find yourself lost in an emotional fog of projection, groping through the mists, bumping into others with snarling interactions that leave you shocked until, recovering your lost sense of "lostness", you finally tumble down into a bit and break your ankle. . . . . and then the night overtakes you with frost and a chill wind, a dying ember shorn from all of humanity.

There's a difference between "what we want", "what we need", and "what we get". In this society, we always chase after what we want, while avoiding what we need, and end up being so appalled and disappointed with what we get. However, if we got more of what we actually needed, and accepted what we had, then we would be in a better position to earn "what we wanted" instead of trying to get "something for nothing", cotton candy opposed to a juicy porterhouse steak. Though both are tasty, know not to have "too much" over the other lest you get sick and be unfulfilled.

Yet we seek "emotional validation", and get angry when others don't honor our wishes.

Take "The Million Man March". Though it may not be profitable to ask if a million "were really there", you nod and agree that a big crowd certainly showed up "and made its statement".

When we "stomp down" an enemy, or find ourselves "gearing up" to do so, we overly justify our side of the conflict with cartoonish exaggerations that ignore "common sense". It's framed in a way so even those back in the blood-thirsty "cheap seats" can understand, when some very simple and direct and obvious questions "are shouted down" because they know they're either not smart enough to answer them or deep down inside they know "they're liars".

The full story is far more interesting and potentially embarrassing.

So many folks live in eminent fear "of slipping on a banana peel", or wobbling about with the threat of falling over. . . . . or having taken a nasty spill, scrambling "to get back up" and not wanting to admit "that they have lost face". Rather like a bunch of baboons in a nature video squalling over territory, or trying to maintain the little bit of "honor" they have.

There's the state of the adolescent mind when one must ask themselves about loyalty "and what they really believe". If they had the solidness of character, 100%, they would not "throw others to the wolves" no matter what-- yet matters are compromised in this time of self-preservation and uncertainty. An icon like James Dean did not come into this world "fully formed" but was as much of a wincing, hurting little grasshopper as anyone else with foibles that are universal. Don't for a second think that an iconic photo "stands for truth", because you don't see them blink, look around, and give you sense they're "mortal".

There's far less there than you'd think, yet the full story would make your head spin and compute with perfect sense like a nifty "Mr. Wizard" experiment on television. Gimmicks can be fun, yet dangerous. . . . . like simpletons spooked by slight-of-hand showmanship.

Don't run from the thunder.

You know I only came here for one purpose. . . . . to take yor fuckin' cash! Why, I could make more profit puttin' out my meth-head neighbor's asshole and ringin' a bell, hollerin' 'Man for sale! Man for sale!'
